The Royal Wedding ~ William & Catherine ~ A Viewing Party!

Countdown to the Royal Wedding

Oh my Royal goodness, Bird's Party has done it again! As you know from yesterday's
post, I am getting in the Royal spirit as the countdown to the wedding begins. I had a
good friend email me and say that she too was staying up for the festivities, and stocking
up on Red-bull; which immediately threw me into party planning mode about hosting a
royal wedding viewing party.

You can image how excited I was to wake up and find a reader had emailed me a link to a Britannia High Tea complete with custom printables!
Debuting on Amy Atlas' blog, Bird's Party has custom designed a Royal Party
Printable Collection available in her Etsy store, complete with golden crowns, English
rose, vintage lace and a corgis especially designed for a royal wedding viewing party!

Bird created an English High-Tea Party theme, to commemorate the impending nuptials
of William and Kate. In addition to serving English blends, the dessert for this table included traditional English sweets like homemade scones filled with clotted cream and raspberry jam, cherry and almond slices, custard tarts, shortbread biscuits, meringue, and
fresh fruit with cream.

Thank you Bird for all the inspiration!! I'm heading over to Bird's Party right now!

The Royal Wedding: William & Catherine ~ The Engagement

Countdown to the Royal Wedding

Ok, I have a confession....

I love royal weddings. Not just an ordinary curiosity kind of interest, but a "get out of
bed at 3:00am in the morning to watch it live" kind of love.

Yes I did set my alarm to watch the wedding of Prince Charles to Princess Diana in 1981.
I was only 15 years old and still at the age of dreaming of my own "fairytale wedding"
and "happily ever after". I was so in awe of the pomp and circumstance involved in every
aspect of their celebration.

Who knows, maybe that was the beginning of my wedding planning career!?

I loved Princess Diana, and felt she was the epitome of style, grace and beauty. She managed
to be a kind and loving mother while holding down the distinct honor of Princess of Wales;
and all of the obligations that come along with that position. She was an inspiration to those
of us working mommies who try to balance work and home life on a daily basis.

But here we are 30 years later. 30 years!!! And finally we're getting the chance to be
entranced in another fairytale romance.

And this time, whether it's because I am older, (and maybe a little wiser), but I can't help feeling so excited about the impending nuptials of Prince William and Catherine. Who isn't captivated by the love story of the "girl next door" finding and marrying her Prince Charming?

Wow.

And, while having never met Kate, I truly believe that she is fitting to be the People's Princess. She exudes the same style and grace that Princess Diana had, and you can't look at the expression on her face without believing with all your heart, that dreams do come true.

{REAL PARTY} A Special 5th Birthday Barbie Bash

This darling barbie party is definitely fit for a 5th birthday girl!

But she isn't just any birthday girl, and this isn't just any birthday party. You see, this
party was for the daughter of my dear friend Sue, who as you know, lost her battle with
cancer in January of this year.

Looking through these pictures brings both sadness and joy. Sue was one of those
moms that loved her children with all her heart. She loved being a mom more than anything else, and loved planning parties for her children. She was happiest when she was making other people feel special and important. It was her gift.

So in looking at the pictures I can't help but notice that Sue is not there....physically.
But what brings a tremendous amount of peace and joy is knowing that she is sitting at
the right hand of God, watching a fantastic barbie birthday party unfold for her daughter as if right out of one of her own playbooks. The same friends that Sue cherished rallied together and gave her daughter a birthday she will always remember.

I know Sue was happy, because her daughter was loved on, and felt special on her
birthday. Happy 5th Birthday Kamden!

Well, these may have been the images of tabletop trends for Spring from last year,
but I see so many ideas that I would love to incorporate into some Spring / Easter

The following Spring tablescape trends were all showcased at the New York Magazine
Wedding Event 2010 by the city's top designers.

A Fresh Spring Brunch

I love the look of this fresh + clean backyard Spring brunch!

Styled by Melissa of The Lovliest Day, this brunch is full of ideas for you to re-create!

I love how Melissa used fallen eucalyptus branches from around her neighborhood to
create the simple garland and wreath that adorned the table.

The table runner was simply made from a piece of cheese cloth cut to fit the length
of the table, then tied off at the ends with some twine.

The favors were mini cheddar cheese wheels purchased from Trader Joe's and tied up into a pretty little cheesecloth pouch, secured with twine and a sprig of fresh lavender. So fresh!

The menu consisted of something simple yet delicious; a selection of artisan cheeses
with an assortment of breads, crackers, and fresh fruit. That was paired with some lavender lemonade spiked with a little citrus vodka! (recipe is on Melissa's blog)
