Happy Earth Day

inspiration board found on Elizabeth Anne Designs

Happy Earth Day! To me, being intentionally eco-friendly has more to do with celebrating God’s creativity, being wise with what He’s given us, and passing on those values to the next generation; it's just good stewardship.

One of the things I love most about practicing green alternatives in my home is that usually they are the more frugal option. Being environmentally-friendly is just good economics – in our home and budget, and with the earth God gave us.

There are many little things we can do in our homes to play a small part and make a big impact on our earth and it's environment. We can double our efforts by getting our kids involved and helping them understand the why to our what. Once they get it, it will become second nature to them when they’re adults – and that much easier to pass it down to their children.

Here are some small, easy, green choices we can make in our homes.

25 Easy Ways to Go Greener at Home – Besides Recycling

1. Plant an herb garden with your children.

2. Stop using disposable bags – order some reusable bags, or make your own.

3. Buy an inexpensive reusable water bottle, and stop buying plastic disposable bottles.

4. Wash laundry in cold water instead of hot.

5. Turn off lights when you leave the room.

6. Don’t turn on lights at all for as long as you can — open your curtains and enjoy natural light.

7. Support your local economy and shop at a farmer's market.

8. Turn off your computer completely at night.

9. Research whether you can sign up for green power from your utility company.

10. Pay as many bills as possible online.

11. Put a stop to unsolicited mail — sign up to opt out of pre-screened credit card offers.

12. Reuse scrap paper. Print on two sides, or let your kids color on the back side of used paper.

13. Subscribe to good eco-friendly blogs. My favorites are The Daily Green, TreeHugger, and Keeper of the Home. Of course, you gotta subscribe to Simple Organic.

14. Before buying anything new, first check your local Craigslist or Freecycle.

15. Fix leaky faucets.

16. Make your own household cleaners.

17. Lower the temperature on your hot water heater.

18. Unplug unused chargers and appliances.

19. Repurpose something – save egg cartons for paint wells, seed starters, or treasure boxes, etc.

20. Collect rainwater, and use it to water your houseplants and garden.

21. Swith to cloth diapers – or at least do a combination with disposables.

22. Use cloth napkins daily instead of paper.

23. Repurpose glass jars as leftover containers and bulk storage.

24. Five-minute showers – make it a goal for yourself.

25. Donate to- and shop at - thrift stores such as Goodwill. You’ll be recycling perfectly usable items, and supporting your local economy.

Hanging Chandeliers

Hanging chandeliers are timeless and classic, and I just happen to love them.

They are the perfect way to add glamour, elegance and romance to your special event, and can be dressed up or down depending on the mood you are trying to create.

Besides renting chandeliers, consider a fun DIY project and give any regular lighting fixture a makeover with beading and crystals from your local craft store.

{Real Party} A Tea Party to Remember

I am in love with this sweet bridal tea that I found via The Sweetest Occassion.
It was originally featured on Wedding Style Guide, and is a beautiful color combination
blues, pink, and reds. They incorporated a lot of ribbons, trimming and embellishments
to complete the look.

I went right over to Wedding Style Guide's blog and bonus!! I found free DIY template downloads that you can use for your next tea party!

There you will also find delightful tea recipes for Sweet Little Tarts, Sandwich Selections, Artichoke and Green Olive Tarts, Pretty Pink Macaroons, Little Lemon Bundt Cakes.

Sweet Vintage Inspired Outdoor Tablescapes

I love that vintage inspired style is coming back in fashion. You can create such a sweet,
fresh, relaxed and intimate ambience when you plan your celebration outdoors, and what
could be a better backdrop than mother nature herself?

You can choose bold, vibrant colors to contrast with the great outdoors; or simply use gold, greens, and ivory to compliment and create a more natural and rustic feel.

Please click on the links below each photo to see the entire real event and/or styled photo shoot, and behind the scenes details; as well as complete photo and designer credits.

Inspired by A Slumber Party

I love looking through inspiring party blogs and one theme that I have run across that I
have absolutely fallen in love with is the Slumber Party Table. I can't imagine a more enchanting evening for a group of little girls than to start off a slumber party in this fashion!
I found some images and creative ideas that I've pulled together and couldn't wait to share
with you! Of course you will have to check back for a blog post once I have the opportunity
to plan one of these adorable parties myself!

I found this shabby chic slumber party table on A Little Lovliness' blog. Melissa
simply turned her dining room table toward the wall and propped pillows against the
mirror to create the "headboard".

Then she topped the table with extra linens and instead of using a chair she slid an ottoman at the foot of the table. I think one of the most creative and darling ideas Melissa incorporated, was that each girl found a gift at her place setting - coordinated pajamas that Melissa had made for all the girls!

This next party was a REAL PARTY featured on Hostess with the Mostess created by Giggle Dust Parties. She designed the bed from two twin comforters that were sewn together to act as a tablecloth. She used a coordinating sheet set for the pillow cover and bed sheets that were visible at the head of the table. She hand sewed the napkins from material found at a local fabric store. How awesome too - that her hubby custom made the headboard and footboard!!

Over on Real Simple, of course, one of my favorite contributors Jennifer Sbranti
posted another adorable slumber party theme idea.

Jenn used standard banquet-style tables and made them to look like beds. You can use patterned sheets, duvets, or tableclothes in any style or color scheme to act as the "bedspread", then top everything off with a pillows, stuffed animals, story books and your place settings!

{Hostess Spotlight} Bella Grace Party Designs - Love Bird Theme

My friend, Lindsey, with Bella Grace Party Designs, did such a fantastic job planning a Love Birds party for her girls. Her inspiration can be used for Valentine's Day (as Lindsey did) or anytime you want to celebrate your love birds with a special party!

Great job Lindsey!

DIY Tissue Pom Poms and Napkin Rings

How simply fun and adorable hanging tissue pom poms are! They can be made in any color combination to match your party decor, and add a burst of color without breaking the bank.

I tried making these for the first time for my daughter's playhouse warming / 4th birthday
party and was pleasantly surprised at how simple they were to make. Click on the above link
to see the hot pink / light pink / white color combination that I used to dress up her sweets
and dessert table.

This is a DIY project that I will be incorporating at all my parties!

The following photos and tutorial are what I used as a guideline and were originally

How to Make the Pom-Poms
You'll need tissue paper and 24-gauge white cloth-covered floral wire.

Hanging Pom-Poms
1. Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inchwide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.

2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.

3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

4. Tie a length of monofilament to floral wire for hanging.

You can also coordinate matching napkin rings!

Napkin Rings
With just a few changes, these follow the same steps as the hanging pom-poms.

1. Stack four sheets of tissue. Cut a 10-by-5-inch rectangle, going through all layers. Make 3/8-inch-wide accordion folds.

2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, slip over center of tissue, and twist to secure. Trim ends of tissue.

3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.

4. Bend wire into a loop to fit around napkin, and twist end around loop to secure.
